Augmented Reality Live-Action Compositing

چکیده

We shall demonstrate a system that performs live-action compositing of physical and virtual objects against a panoramic background image in real-time at interactive rates. A static camera is directed towards a 40 cm3 miniature stage, whose backdrop has been colored in chromatic green. Users can add virtual objects and manipulate their parameters within the scene by using a proxy device that consists of a small rod attached to a fiducial marker. Our system runs on commodity hardware such as a notebook equipped with a firewire video camera. The necessary chroma-keying and adaptive difference-matting algorithms have been implemented on a GPU using fragment shading.

Compositing images through light source detection

Compositing an image of an object into another image is a frequently occurring task in both image processing and augmented reality. To ensure a seamless composition, it is often necessary to infer the light conditions of the image to adjust the illumination of the inserted object. Here, we present a novel algorithm for multiple light detection that leverages the limitations of the human visual ...

Live-action Virtual Reality Games

This paper proposes the concept of “liveaction virtual reality games” as a new genre of digital games based on an innovative combination of live-action, mixed-reality, context-awareness, and interaction paradigms that comprise tangible objects, context-aware input devices, and embedded/embodied interactions. Live-action virtual reality games are “live-action games” because a player physically a...

Physically-Based Depth of Field in Augmented Reality

We present a novel method for rendering and compositing video in augmented reality. We focus on calculating the physically correct result of the depth of field caused by a lens with finite sized aperture. In order to correctly simulate light transport, ray-tracing is used and in a single pass combined with differential rendering to compose the final augmented video. The image is fully rendered ...

TINT: Towards a Pure Python Augmented Reality Framework

This paper describes our software framework, called TINT, which is targeted towards rapid development of augmented reality applications. It is entirely written in the Python programming language and optimized with compiled modules to achieve realtime performance without sacrificing simplicity and maintainability. The design goal for TINT is, to make it possible to develop applications and frame...
